Julia Dzun is an urbanist and researcher whose work centers on issues of migration, home, and placemaking. She is currently a PhD candidate at University College London. Her research looks at dynamics that have emerged in the shifting landscape of integration and asylum politics in Germany and its intersection with everyday lived experiences and conditions of belonging in Neukölln, Berlin following the so-called “refugee crisis” of 2015-2016.
She received her previous degrees from the University of Toronto and The New School. Following her studies, she continued to work at the New School as a part-time lecturer, while also working as a researcher across sectors, challenging discriminatory practices manifest in policy, decision-making, and entrenched cultural norms that make their way into lived, everyday barriers in urban public space. Centering collaboration, Julia continues to use research as a tool for expanding conceptions around commoning, justice, and inclusion.
